Nancy Reagan ridiculed reports she is power hungry and wields undue influence but said she does share her views with President Reagan and that “it’s silly to suggest my opinion should not carry some weight.” “I’m a woman who loves her husband and I make no apologies for looking out for his personal and political welfare,” she said. Mrs. Reagan, speaking at the American Newspaper Publishers Assn. convention in New York, joked about reports that she had overstepped her role. “This morning I had planned to clear up the U.S.-Soviet differences on intermediate-range missiles, but I decided I’d clear out Ronnie’s sock drawer instead,” she said.
