It is saddening and maddening in this delicate age of enlightenment to see such an influential medium as the Times handle the issue of U.S.-Soviet relations with such an incredible degree of irresponsibility. DeVoss’ language was blatantly combative and violent, seeking to provoke paranoid and insular reactions, a way of thinking that needs to be obsolete in a world a hairbreadth from destruction.
