The president of the Rotary Club chapter in Gilroy apologized for a remark in a newsletter telling its all-male membership that women will be considered for admission, but “Please, guys--no dogs!” Brad Smith, president of the club and the South Valley National Bank, blamed the “very, very poor choice of words” on the man who edits the club bulletin, saying the author--whom he declined to name--only meant that any person proposed by a member for admission should be up to Rotary standards. The chapter presently counts the city attorney, city manager, school superintendent, community college president, a city councilman and a school trustee among its members.
