Eight films took $1,000 cash prizes Sunday night at the close of Anthropos ‘87: The Barbara Myerhoff Film Festival at USC. “Our God the Condor,” a 1987 British-made film about a ritual practiced by Indians in the remote southern Andes, took the top prize of the Center for Visual Anthropology. Winners in other categories: anthropological subjects--”Inughuit: The People at the Navel of the World” (Sweden, 1985); social issues--”Handsworth Songs” (England, 1986); women’s subjects--”India Cabaret” (India/United States, 1985); Jewish subjects-- “Partisans of Vilna” (United States, 1986); music and poetry--”Ernie Andrews: Blues for Central Avenue” (United States, 1986); non-documentary shorts--”Naghol--The Tower” (United States, 1985), and student films--”Home From the Hill” (England, 1985). The five-day festival included more than 100 films and videos representing the cultures of 31 countries.
