HELLO DOLLY: Barbie, the diminutive star of the doll world, comes to video around Christmas of this year. Hi-Tops Video has been licensed by Mattel to release two half-hour animated episodes featuring “Barbie and the Rockers” for a start, exclusive to the home-video market. What a teen dream! Can cross-promotion be far behind?
HELLO CD-V: Pioneer is the first company to demonstrate a CD-Video (CD-V) player. The CLD 1010 model should go on sale in early fall and have a suggested list price of about $800. There’ll be more news about the new vision-and-sound compact disc format at the Summer Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago May 29-June 1, where a new VCR format, Super-VHS, will also be demonstrated.
