Ex-Duck Flax Throws Hammer 250 Feet
Ken Flax, former University of Oregon star, threw the hammer 250 feet Thursday night to highlight the competition at the Oregon State University Twilight track and field meet.
Flax, a former NCAA champion now competing for the New York Athletic Club, defeated runner-up Lance Deal by 12 feet.
Another former collegiate champion, Farley Gerber, won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 8:41.54.
Jill Smith of the University of Oregon qualified for the NCAA championships by winning the women’s javelin with a personal best 172-10.
Former Oregon State standout Mark Fricker won the 1,500 meters in 3:46.29.
Craig Christenson, competing for the New York Athletic Club, captured the javelin competition with a throw of 247-9.
