Republican Ex-Democrats
As president of the Democratic Club of West Orange County I thank you for printing (May 11) the former Democrats’ photos in a “lineup” so we can readily identify those whose priorities do not match the 364,813 Democrats in Orange County. We would rather they be “comfortable” in the Republican milieu than acting as “boll weevils” as we work to overcome the social problems which have increased during the Republican Administration in Orange County.
So, how do we react to the oppressive Republican dominance in our political, business and social life so accurately described in Claudia Luther’s article? We just try harder to change or remove officials whose decisions have contributed to conditions in Orange County which have produced 5,000 homeless each month, 150,500 living below the poverty line, 360,000 residents with minimal or no medical care, diminishing low- and moderate-income housing, and transportation reaching gridlock proportions.
We Democrats invite all disenchanted Republicans to join one of our 10 Democratic clubs. No, maybe we can’t offer luxurious surroundings and job advancement yet, but we can offer an exciting, challenging, uphill program to improve the quality of life in Orange County, and to move toward a more peaceful world.
The Democrats’ success in winning the 33rd District Senate seat for Cecil Green is only the beginning of the awakening of the voters as to which party promotes, defends and protects their interests.
