Irvine : UCI Honors Its Leaders With Lauds and Laurels

Leaders in research teaching, service and other facets of university life were honored recently at the 17th annual Lauds and Laurels Banquet, sponsored by the UC Irvine Alumni Assn.

Among the winners was Marjorie Caserio, professor of chemistry, who received the “extraordinarius” title as the person who best exemplifies the spirit and purpose of UCI. Caserio, a past recipient of a Lauds and Laurels teaching award, is one of UCI’s founding faculty members.

Also recognized was Robert Taft, also a chemistry professor, who received the Distinguished Faculty Lectureship Award for Research, and James Danzinger, professor of social science, who received the Distinguished Faculty Lectureship Award for Teaching. Both honors were presented by the UCI Academic Senate.

Twenty-five other awards were presented at the banquet, held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Newport Beach, to other UCI faculty, staff, students and supporters.
