Local News in Brief : Burbank Votes Funds for Greenbelt Land
The Burbank City Council Tuesday approved spending $554,375 to help purchase hillside property in the Verdugo Mountains that the city wants to preserve as a greenbelt.
The money will be matched with state funds designated for parklands and channeled through the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy. The city will buy the property, appraised at $1.1 million, from developer Sherman Whitmore.
Whitmore had presented several development proposals to the council in the past, but city officials always rejected them for fear of damaging the environment.
