A prominent New York lawyer was charged with trying to bribe witnesses to lie in a lawsuit filed by the family of a rabbi who fell to his death down an elevator shaft. Theodore Friedman, the husband of state Supreme Court Justice Eve Preminger, pleaded innocent to the 10-count indictment at his arraignment in Manhattan. A mistrial was declared in the suit against New York City and the Universal Elevator Co. in January of 1986 after a potential witness said that Friedman was trying to bribe him.
