A Napa woman died of injuries suffered when she was hit by a half-ton piece of ice that fell from Exit Glacier in Alaska’s Kenai National Fiords Park. Park Service spokeswoman Nancy Stromsen said Thais Grabenauer, 59, and her husband, Ken, were taking photographs within a few feet of the glacier near Seward when the chunk of ice, estimated to weigh at least 1,000 pounds, broke free. The ice landed on Mrs. Grabenauer and shattered. She was treated at a medical facility in the vicinity for multiple internal injuries and broken bones, and then was flown to Providence Hospital in Anchorage, where she died.
