Fifteen Kuwaiti Shia Muslims charged with plotting to overthrow the Kuwaiti government went on trial in the emirate’s highest court. Eight of the defendants are accused of distributing leaflets urging the violent overthrow of the regime, and seven are charged with obstructing justice and attacking security forces. Earlier this month, the same court pronounced death sentences on six Kuwaitis and imposed prison terms ranging from two years to life on eight others for attacks on Kuwaiti oil installations.
