Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger arrived in Tokyo for talks with Japanese leaders on a wide range of issues. In his scheduled meetings with Yuko Kurihara, the director-general of Japan’s Defense Agency, Weinberger is expected to discuss Japan’s choice of a new fighter plane and Tokyo’s indirect support for U.S. policy in the Persian Gulf, the source for much of Japan’s crude oil. Weinberger also will call on Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone and Foreign Minister Tadashi Kuranari before leaving Monday.
