An $8-million sheriff’s station is expected to open by the beginning of August at 21695 E. Valley Blvd. and serve the growing population in the Walnut-Diamond Bar area, according to Capt. Thomas Vetter, who will be the station commander.

The area is currently served by the Industry station, and 30% of its personnel will be included among the 265 employees at the new station.

In a related move, the San Dimas station will become a local station, served by administrators in Walnut. There will be no cutback in service at San Dimas, which covers foothill areas from Azusa to the San Bernardino County border, said Vetter, who is commander at San Dimas.
