Hunters and fishermen beat out chefs and gourmands in the Louisiana Legislature with a 16-12 vote killing a new license plate slogan that would have called the state “America’s Cuisine Capital.”

During the debate Thursday, senators praised the efforts of New Orleans chefs such as Paul Prudhomme in promoting Cajun cooking and thus boosting tourism, but said the vast majority of Louisiana citizens still think of their state as a “Sportsmen’s Paradise,” the current slogan.
