Digitext Board Elects Kaufman Chairman to Replace Lefkowitz

Digitext said its board elected Monty D. Kaufman as chairman to replace LeRoy M. Lefkowitz, who resigned.

Digitext, a Thousand Oaks-based maker of electronic systems that convert shorthand notes into computerized text, has been struggling since it went public in February, 1986. Last month, it reported a $3.7-million loss for its fiscal year ended March 31, after a $2.6-million loss in fiscal 1986.

Digitext’s brief history has been marked by some management dissension. Lefkowitz was named chairman in May, 1986, to replace Jack R. Hubbs, who was ousted by Digitext’s board.

Kaufman, who will be based in New York, also is scheduled to become vice chairman of Charles P. Young Management Services on Aug. 1. That company is a unit of Service Resources, a New York-based financial printing and services concern that owns a major stake in Digitext.
