Lt. Col. Oliver North: Patriotic Hero or Misguided Zealot?
What a perfect way to celebrate the 200th anniversary of our nation’s Constitution--by slathering over the telegenic appeal of a man who has clearly testified he’d just as soon shred that document as obey its most basic principles.
The plain truth is that North and his so-called “superiors”--only one of whom is an elected official--are dictatorial zealots who took it upon themselves to concoct and conduct a shadow foreign policy in direct conflict with the desires of our elected Congress, the American people and world opinion. North’s credentials as an attractive person have nothing to do with his guilt or innocence: Lest we forget, Ferdinand Marcos was a highly decorated war hero, Adolph Hitler was reputedly very charismatic and the devil himself may well be a charmer . . . but none of them strike me as proper objects for adulation.
