The Nation : Delta Defends Program

Delta Air Lines said an internal investigation has uncovered no warning signs pointing to problems with its pilot training program despite a recent string of close calls involving Delta jets. “We’ve reviewed it and reviewed it and reviewed it and we can’t find anything wrong with it (the training program),” said Delta spokesman Jim Ewing. Delta has been plagued with a number of close calls, including a near miss off Newfoundland; a plane that plunged to within 600 feet of the ocean off Los Angeles when the pilot mistakenly turned off the engines; a landing at the wrong airport in Kentucky, and a landing on the wrong runway in Boston.
