Church Appeals Order to Return $6.6 Million

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. —
The Bible Speaks, a fundamentalist church, is appealing a federal bankruptcy court’s order to return a contributor’s $6.6 million.
The appeal, filed Friday, said the ruling infringed on the First Amendment guarantee of the free exercise of religion. Department store heiress Elizabeth Dayton Dovydenas, 34, had argued that the church used undue influence to manipulate her into making large donations.
