A Tall Order for Heavyweight Champion

California heavyweight champion Dee Collier faces what may be the biggest challenge of his career tonight in the featured bout at the Irvine Marriott Hotel.

Collier, 6-feet 3-inches and 235 pounds, fights Mike White of Long Beach, who is 7-feet tall and weights 270 pounds, for the state title in a scheduled 10-round bout. White (16-6-1), of Long Beach, is the only 7-foot boxer in the world.

White has knocked out Levi Billups and Dwain Bonds in his last two fights.

Collier (14-5) of Los Angeles knocked out Mark Wills in his last fight--a title defense in February at Long Beach.

In the eight-round semi-main event, Kenny Wyatt of Los Angeles fights Henry Lugo of San Jose at 129 pounds. Wyatt is trained by Danny (Little Red) Lopez.

In other scheduled bouts: Mike Ruelas of Los Angeles fights Fuji Fujimoto of Japan at 147 pounds in a five-round rematch. Ruelas, was ahead on points in their fight May 28 in Irvine but suffered a deep cut over his right eye early in the third round.

The fight was stopped on the advice of the ring doctor later in the round.

Dave Kilgore of North Hollywood fights Anthony Holt of Long Beach at 164 pounds, Ruben Proa of San Diego fights Johnny Clouden of Los Angeles at 134 pounds and Lonnie Bryant of of San Diego fights Francisco Jimenez of Los Angeles at 127 pounds.
