Anjie Bryant, an All-San Diego Section pitcher, signed a letter of intent to play for Cal State Fullerton’s softball team, Coach Judi Garman announced Monday.

“She very well could be our top pitcher next year, plus her bat will be in the lineup every day,” Garman said.

Bryant, a 5-foot 8-inch left-hander, had an 18-2 record with an earned-run average of 0.54 for El Capitan High School in Lakeside. She also played first base and led the Grossmont League with a .500 batting average in her senior season.

Garman also announced the hiring of Marty Rubinoff as an assistant coach. Rubinoff also will continue to serve as the head coach of the California Raiders of the Amateur Softball Assn. He has been with the Raiders since 1979, during which the team has six senior national championships (for women 18 and under).

Rubinoff replaces Kathy Van Wyk, who resigned in May.
