$51 Million Extra for D.C.--but No Funds for Abortions
WASHINGTON — President Reagan asked Congress today for more than $51 million in additional fiscal 1987 money for the District of Columbia and asked for a continued ban against using federal money in the district for abortions.
The request covered funds needed by the district for the fiscal year that ends Sept. 30, and Reagan, in a letter to the leaders of the House and Senate, said: “This transmittal does not represent endorsement of the contents.
“Also, I am taking this opportunity to reiterate my request that the Congress ensure that none of the funds appropriated for the District of Columbia be used for abortion unless the life of the mother would be endangered if the fetus were carried to term.”
