Amid warnings that San Diego County could face a trash-disposal crisis by the early 1990s, the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a $100,000 study aimed at determining potential North County landfill sites.
Although previous studies have identified a number of potential North County sites, the supervisors, partly in response to complaints from nearby residents, voted unanimously to expand the area to be studied to include most of the county’s northwest quadrant.
“Nobody wants it in their backyard,” Supervisor Brian Bilbray said. “That’s human nature.”
The expanded study is expected to be completed in early 1988.
