A San Diego area couple accused of laundering payments for prostitution operations in five states was arrested Friday after a two-year investigation by local and federal authorities.

A federal grand jury indicted the pair, Bruce and Stanleen Compton, on charges of bank fraud, mail fraud and racketeering. Law enforcement agencies expected the imminent arrest of most of 10 other defendants named in seven related indictments.

According to the charges, the Comptons used the bank accounts of their business, Pictures are Forever, to launder hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of payments made to prostitution organizations masquerading as out-call massage, modeling and escort services. The alleged scheme stretched from California to Washington, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, prosecutors said.
