In an effort to curb the two-month wave of roadway violence, the California Highway Patrol has authorized 10,000 additional hours of overtime to put more officers on the road. Extra patrols took to the roadways Saturday afternoon. Of the 10,000 overtime hours, 3,900 will be in Los Angeles County and 7,500 in all of Southern California. Routes where previous attacks have occurred were the areas designated for increased patrols, particularly during hours “when the traffic is heaviest and frustration level is highest,” said CHP Central Division Chief John Anderson. More than 50 shootings, stabbings, car rammings and other incidents have left four people dead, 17 wounded and thousands of motorists shaken since the outbreak of roadway violence.
