The Irvine Co. said Wednesday that it plans to lay off 180 employees who manage apartment buildings for its Irvine Pacific subsidiary as part of a corporate plan to shift more tasks to outside contractors.
Roland Osgood, president of the company’s land management group, told Irvine Pacific employees Wednesday of the pending layoffs, which he said may begin as early as October, depending on the company’s progress in contracting with apartment management firms.
Company spokeswoman Judy Frutig said Irvine Pacific is negotiating with Western National Property Management of Orange to manage about 4,000 existing apartments and 1,000 units being built. The company is also negotiating with Anza Management Co. of Irvine to manage about 1,500 apartments.
She said that previous negotiations with Regis Management Co. of Newport Beach broke down but that Irvine Pacific is discussing a deal with other apartment management firms.
