B&B; Guidebooks

Regarding Gary Libman’s story about bed and breakfast inns being charged in order to be represented in guidebooks (“Gloom at the Inn,” Aug. 14): These fees aren’t unusual, at least not for the insurance industry. In order to be represented in industry guidebooks--many sponsored by various insurance associations--companies need to pay association dues, often between $500 and $1,000 or more, plus at least $50 for each branch office. As is the case with inns, insurance companies or agencies that can’t afford or won’t pay the fees aren’t represented in the guides.
