McMahon, 8 Other Bears Are Among 41 Caught Speeding on Way to Chicago

Quarterback Jim McMahon was among nine Bears ticketed for speeding as they returned from training camp in Platteville, Wis., to Chicago, Illinois State Police said.

During a three-hour air-speed check Wednesday on Bypass 20 and Perryville Road, just outside Rockford, police stopped 41 cars for speeding. Nine of the 41 were driven by Bear players.

Tight end Emery Moorehead was timed the fastest at 86 m.p.h., 31 over the 55-m.p.h. speed limit, police said.

Next came running back Neal Anderson and receiver Lew Barnes, each 84 m.p.h.; running back Calvin Thomas, 83 m.p.h., and McMahon, 78 m.p.h., police said. Also nabbed were Mike Tomczak, Dennis McKinnon, Tim McHugh and Bill Burris, police said.
