Raider-Coliseum-Irwindale Controversy

Coliseum Commission President Alexander Haagen is to be commended for his efforts at bringing a business-like approach to the management of the Coliseum Commission (Part I, Aug. 28).

With burn centers being closed, trauma centers eliminated, California ranking 39th among the states in school dropouts, an annual $200-billion federal deficit, and a $160-billion annual trade deficit, there is no justification for spending in excess of several hundred million tax dollars to subsidize the construction of a private football stadium for a team that can afford to pay its players in excess of a million dollars a year.

We need more Haagens in government, men and women that can see through the manipulators and say no.
