Plans for Hotel Project Revised

The first phase of The Waterfront, a $345-million Huntington Beach development proposed by the Robert Mayer Corp., will consist of a single-tower, 300-room hotel, rather than the twin-tower, 467-room one outlined last May.

The Newport Beach-based firm wants to develop the project in conjunction with the city’s redevelopment agency on 50 acres fronting Pacific Coast Highway between Beach Boulevard and Huntington Street. Public hearings on the project--part of the city’s Main-Pier redevelopment district--are scheduled for early next month.

Wimberly, Whisenard, Allison Tong & Goo Architects Ltd., Newport Beach, is designing the revised hotel. If the project is approved, completion of the hotel is scheduled for 1989, according to Stephen K. Bone, executive director for The Waterfront.
