No More Mrs. Ewing

This year marks Victoria Principal’s first Emmy appearance since leaving her “Dallas” role as Pamela Ewing. And Principal will look “exceedingly chic” Sunday night when she presents an award, says a source who asks not to be identified. “Victoria’s ordered a dress from Gianni Versace, who’s flying it in from Italy.” The import, we hear, is a short-sleeve, body-hugging, black silk crepe minidress with a long, formal overskirt. The former Mrs. Ewing’s next project is “Mistress,” a two-hour CBS-TV movie that airs Oct. 4.

Bruce and Emmy

It sounds too cute for words, but we’ll have to wait until Sunday to see. For the Emmy Award presentations that night, actor Bruce Willis and his date, actress Demi Moore, are wearing 1880s period-piece costumes. His is black cashmere and silk Jacquard with a duster coat that grazes his ankles. Hers is black silk with jet buttons and a train. Both outfits are by Robert Turturice, the costume designer for “Moonlighting,” who also styled a black velvet gown with gold beading for Cybill Shepherd to wear that night, and a wine-colored velvet gown for Mary Caron, the wife of the series creator and executive producer. Listen hears all of this from Turturice’s spokesman, Julian Siminski. Whatever else, all the outfits have star credentials. Turturice was named this year’s Emmy winner for best costume design. He picked up his award during a not-for-broadcast presentation. As for what he wore, Siminski says it was an Emanuel Ungaro tux.

Lauren Pays Full Price

Designer Ralph Lauren, who often holes up at his ranch in Colorado, flew to Los Angeles Labor Day weekend to drop in, unannounced, at the new Polo/Ralph Lauren store in Beverly Hills. Owner Jerry Magnin tells Listen that Lauren; wife, Rickey; son David, 15, and daughter, Dylan, 13, spent about two hours at the store and didn’t escape without spending $5,000 on sportswear and collectibles, including a reptile-skin lap desk. The designer paid retail price for the goodies--despite the fact that his name’s on everything. Come 6:30 in the evening, they were all out the back door, taking a black Cadillac to their private jet. “I asked him to stay for dinner,” says Magnin, “but he said the airport he flies into in Colorado has nighttime restrictions.”

Meantime, entertainer Elton John picked up some sweaters and sweats on a recent visit to the Lauren store, then climbed the stairs to the second-floor home-ware area to ask about the “thoroughbred” bed, an antique mahogany bed dressed in dark linens. Elton bought the linens, says Magnin. But not the bed.

E.T.’s Passion Party

Come on, admit it. What you really want to know about Elizabeth Taylor’s star-studded Passion perfume party last Friday night is: How did they all look? And who but Listen would tell you? In the flesh--and lots of flesh showed in her low-neck, Nolan Miller dress--Elizabeth looked delicious. Joan Collins also wore a deep-dish neckline, hers a full-skirt, black-lace style by English designer David Fielden. We don’t know whose label was inside the pretty champagne satin strapless dress worn by Shera (Mrs. Peter) Falk. Mrs. Falk and the other decolletage Hollywood types were in great contrast with the “little black dress” contingent, most of whom were of the local retail world or “just in from New York.” This group always wears elegant, understated black cocktail dresses. The event was black tie, so Roddy McDowall, Robert Wagner, Robert Stack, Red Buttons and dozens more screen gems wore their penguin suits and looked divine. Designer Amir showed up with Lola Falana, glamorous in a pale, puff-shoulder, low-neck gown. Hairdresser-to-the-stars Jose Eber, there with Lisa Hartman, looked swell in his tux, black gaucho hat and pale blond ponytail.

An Ear for News

Will he or won’t he wear his earring during broadcasts? That is the question about “60 Minutes” correspondent Ed Bradley. You may recall he had his ear pierced in June. The show starts its new season Sunday night, and Listen phoned ahead to find out what to expect. Bradley is not scheduled to air a segment this week, though he may introduce another reporter’s, a spokesman said. He’s been wearing his earring to the office but nobody knows whether he’ll wear it on air. That’s up to him to decide, we’re told.

Rodeo Drive Changes

The Lina Lee boutique on Rodeo Drive remains open. But Lina Lee shops in South Coast Plaza and Dallas have already shut their doors, and this week four Lina Lee shops in New York’s Trump Tower filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. bankruptcy code. Listen could not reach Beverly Hills-based Lina Lee Lidow, principal stockholder in the company, for comment. Shop personnel said she was in Europe. Other sources, who asked not to be identified, tell Listen that Lee hopes to remain open on Rodeo Drive and maybe even in two of her New York stores. Business has not been good in Trump Tower, the source confirmed, adding that “there’s resistance to Donald Trump and his buildings among New Yorkers.”

Another Rodeo Drive rumor has Giorgio Armani of Milan considering an Armani shop on the Street of Sometimes-Broken Dreams. We could not confirm this by press time.

Unreal, On-Landish

We loved it on sight, and we don’t even surf. The new Surf Tie is really meant for guys like Calvin Tom and Sterling King of Leucadia, who hang 10 every a.m. at Carter’s Reef in Cardiff and then get dressed for work. They hate ties. So they invented the authentic, Southern California surfer’s cravat. It’s made of genuine wet-suit material, is shaped like a real tie and reverses from ocean blue to pelican pink (or other charming neoprene color combos). It has a gorgeous graphic on one side, comes in wide or skinny sizes and knots perfectly (we tried it). It’ll be sold in “hard-core surf shops,” Tom says, for $17.95 and $18.95.
