As if they didn’t have enough problems with injuries, inconsistency on defense and a likely players’ strike, the New York Jets now must worry about Steve Grogan.

The New England Patriots quarterback, in his 13th National Football League season, has made a habit of picking on the Jets. Grogan is 10-5 against New York, and has hit on 54.3% of his passes for 3,386 yards and 29 touchdowns.

“He’s an experienced quarterback who knows the game well and likes to go to an excellent group of wide receivers,” safety Harry Hamilton said as the New York Jets (1-0) prepared for tonight’s game (6 p.m. PDT, Channel 7) against the Patriots (1-0).

Grogan isn’t sure why he has excelled against the Jets.

“This is going on 13 years now,” he said. “There’s always a turnover in personnel. There’s really nothing special about it.”
