“From the Hip,” Lorimar’s yuppie comedy, is doing much better on home video than it did in theaters. In its second week on the Billboard magazine rental chart, “Hip” moved into the Top 10--at No. 9. As expected, “Light of Day,” which also wasn’t a major box-office hit, is big on home video. That’s probably due to the rental market appeal of star Michael J. Fox. “Light of Day” shot up to No. 7 in two weeks. “Hoosiers” debuted on the rental chart at No. 17 and should be in the Top 10 next week. “The Stepfather,” the acclaimed thriller, got off to a slow start but jumped 17 places to No. 16 on the rental chart. Other charts: “An American Tail” and “Here’s Mickey!” head the kidvid sales chart; “Jane Fonda’s Low Impact Aerobic Workout” and “Jane Fonda’s New Workout” head the health and fitness chart.

* What’s remarkable about “American Tail” is its sudden rise to the top of the sales chart, which measures sales to retailers and distributors. Knocked to No. 2 was “Crocodile Dundee,” which figured to be on top for at least a few more weeks.
