ORANGE COUNTY PREP FOOTBALL : LaRue’s Two Touchdowns Spark Canyon’s 14-7 Victory Over Loara
Fullback Dale LaRue ran for 134 yards and scored both Canyon High School touchdowns as the Comanches scored a 14-7 nonleague win over Loara Friday at El Modena High in Orange.
LaRue, who assumed Canyon’s rushing responsibilities when tailback Eddie Washington was forced out of action with a hip pointer early in the first quarter, scored both his touchdowns in the second period. His first, a one-yard run with three minutes gone, came five plays after David Lara took a Loara punt and returned it 11 yards to the Saxon 20.
Five minutes later, LaRue increased Canyon’s lead to 14-0 with a 7-yard run. He finished the first half with 94 yards on 13 carries.
“Dale is an unsung hero on our team,” said Comanche Coach Rod Hust. “He just plays a good, solid game every time for us, and yet he doesn’t get much publicity for it. He’s a leader who comes through when you need him.”
Loara (2-1), which was held to 17 yards rushing by Canyon (2-1) in the first half, scored its only touchdown with 1:46 left in the third quarter on a two-yard run by tailback Coy Collins.
