A small Denver railroad became the latest would-be purchaser of Southern Pacific Transportation Co., the rail system scheduled to be divested by Santa Fe Southern Pacific Corp. of Chicago. Rio Grande Industries, the parent of the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad, said it has met with the management of Southern Pacific Transportation and that it intends to make an offer to buy the much larger railroad. No price was mentioned.
