Westminster : Money Being Collected for Burned-Out Family

A fund has been established to help a Vietnamese-American family whose home on Hortense Drive was destroyed by fire Monday.

Money raised will go to Washington Thu Cha and his family, who lost virtually all of their belongings in the blaze. No one was hurt in the fire, authorities said.

Neva Duyndam, a retired Costa Mesa teach of English as a second language, said she launched the fund after seeing newspaper photos of the devastated family.

“These people had already lost everything once before (in Vietnam),” Duyndam said. “It was so sad to see them losing everything again. I taught Vietnamese children, and I know how hard they work at education. I’m hoping the money that’s raised can help this family.”

Duyndam said contributions should be made to the “Committee for the Cha Family,” and may be mailed to P.O. Box 1608, Newport Beach, Calif. 92663.
