A man who had been reported dead before his arrest last week in Tempe, Ariz., will be returned to Pasadena to stand trial on a 1981 kidnaping charge.

Pasadena Police Sgt. Leon Olson said officers will travel to Phoenix next Tuesday to take Rory Foster, 29, back to California. Foster and another man, Rene Delcid, were charged in 1981 with kidnaping a man who allegedly had been dating Delcid’s wife, and taking him to Mexico.

The suspects were released while awaiting trial and Pasadena police closed the case when an attorney reported they had been killed in a traffic accident in Honduras.

Foster, a graduate student at Arizona State University, was arrested by campus police on Oct. 1. He is being held in the Maricopa County Jail in lieu of $206,000 bond.
