A La Jolla antique dealer accused of defrauding customers by selling bogus antique furniture pleaded innocent Friday to five new charges in connection with the case.

Sonia Daniella Christine Bonge, appearing in a wheelchair, entered her plea before Municipal Judge Melinda J. Lasater. Deputy Dist. Atty. John Massuco said the new charges include three counts of forgery and two counts of grand theft, bringing to 11 the total charges facing the Del Mar resident.

Also Friday, Lasater reduced Bonge’s bail from $750,000 to $500,000. But the judge granted a motion by Massuco requiring Bonge’s defense attorney to prove that money posted for his client’s release was not obtained through methods at issue in the case.

On a request by Massuco, Lasater then agreed to hold another bail review hearing on Tuesday. Prosecutors say they have developed new evidence that they were unable to present in court Friday.

Bonge is owner of the Shangri La shop, 1237 Prospect St. Prosecutors say Bonge sold furniture and other items that she said were antiques but were not. In addition, she allegedly gave one customer a phony deed on a nonexistent piece of property.

Massuco said Bonge is known by at least six other names and has given several different birth dates that list her age as between 49 and 64. Her defense attorney, David Semco, said she possesses documents with numerous names because she has been married several times.
