Titans Play Florida in Second Money Game

State Fullerton will play a Southeastern Conference team for the second time this season when the Titans take on 18th-ranked Florida today at 10:30 a.m., PDT, at Florida Field.

The Titans (2-3), who last month lost to Louisiana State, 56-12, in the first of two “money” games, will receive a $200,000 guarantee for playing at Florida. Like the LSU game, for which Fullerton also received $200,000, this one was scheduled by Athletic Director Ed Carroll largely for its financial boost to a tightly budgeted program.

Florida (3-2) has lost only to Miami and LSU, both top 10 teams. The Gators have been led by freshman running back Emmitt Smith, who rushed for a school-record 244 yards in a 23-14 victory over Alabama. His average of 141.2 yards a game is third best in the nation, even though he did not start until the third game.

Gator quarterback Kerwin Bell has been less effective than expected. He has thrown 7 interceptions and has passed for 755 yards, a figure not much higher than that of Ronnie Barber, the Fullerton quarterback who has passed for 718 yards with 2 interceptions.
