Hughes Aircraft’s ground systems group in Fullerton said it has received an $18.9 million contract from the Army to make electronics equipment for the initial production of radio-controlled anti-tank mines.

Hughes developed the electronics technology for the mine, which is the Army’s first radio-controlled mine to enter production, Hughes spokesman Dan Reeder said. Reeder said that contracts for the mine electronics could be worth $70 million each year over the next several years and that $50 million of those contracts could go to Hughes if it is successful in the bidding competition.
