Contaminated ice made at a southeastern Pennsylvania ice company has made about 1,000 Philadelphia residents ill, including some who required hospital treatment, health officials say.

Assistant City Health Commissioner Robert Davis said the ice from Holt’s Ice Co. of New Holland, Pa., became contaminated when Conestoga Creek overflowed Sept. 8 and flooded the plant.
