POP LP CHART

Michael Jackson’s “Bad” single moved to No. 1 on the Billboard magazine pop singles chart, making him the champ of both pop charts. His “Bad” LP tops the pop album chart for the fifth straight week. Two veteran bands, Kiss and Aerosmith, have hit albums. Aerosmith’s “Permanent Vacation” is No. 18 and Kiss’ “Crazy Nights,” which flew up the chart, is No. 19 after three weeks. Hot albums: Billy Idol’s “Vital Idol” (No. 25), Yes’ “Big Generator” (No. 35) and Whodini’s “Open Sesame” (No. 50). Stalled albums: the Pet Shop Boys’ “Actually” at No. 37 and Mick Jagger’s “Primitive Cool” at No. 41. Singles chart action: Debbie Gibson has another hit with “Shake Your Love” (No. 37). After debuting last week at No. 66, Stevie Wonder’s new single “Skeletons” climbed only as high as No. 59. But Bruce Springsteen’s single, “Brilliant Disguise”--on the chart four weeks--moved up four places to No. 16.

But The Boss isn’t scaring Michael Jackson any, for the moment at least. Springsteen’s new album, “Tunnel of Love,” did not debut at No. 1 on the Billboard magazine pop album chart. It didn’t even debut in the Top 10. The album entered at a lowly No. 16. Springsteen, who’s reportedly indifferent to the chart numbers game, probably could care less.
