Corona del Mar : Body of Carlsbad Man Found Floating in Sea
The body of a 42-year-old Carlsbad man was found Saturday floating in the ocean near the Corona del Mar State Beach jetty, Newport Beach police reported.
Bystanders noticed the man, identified as Philip Leroy Everett, wedged between the rocks of the jetty. Newport Beach lifeguards recovered the body, which had apparently been in the water about a day, Lt. Jim Carson said.
Everett was terminally ill with lung disease, Carson said, and evidently took a bus to Corona del Mar from his home in Carlsbad, where he was reported missing Oct. 15.
“There was no sign of foul play,” Carson said. “It appears to be a suicide at this time.”
The coroner’s office has scheduled an autopsy for today.
