Orange County Community College Football : South Coast Conference : Fullerton Rallies in Second Half to Win, 42-28

Fullerton College scored 35 second-half points to erase a 14-point halftime deficit and went on to defeat Mt. San Antonio, 42-28, Saturday night in a South Coast Conference football game in front of 1,500 in Fullerton District Stadium.

Fullerton (3-2, 2-0) trailed at halftime, 21-7, and the score was tied, 28-28, in the middle of the fourth quarter.

Fullerton went ahead, 35-28, on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Kerry Severson to Robert Welch with 4:06 left in the game. In the third quarter, the same pair connected on a 29-yard scoring pass to cut the Mt. SAC lead to 21-14.

Mt. SAC (2-3, 0-2) turned the ball over on downs and Fullerton scored on a two-yard run by Andrew Greer with 52 seconds left to take a 42-28 lead. The play was set up by a 50-yard run by Severson.

Greer rushed for 917 yards last season but had only 274 yards coming into this game. But he rushed for a career-high 171 yards in 25 carries and scored 3 touchdowns.

This was the first game this season Fullerton was able to move the ball on the ground. The Hornets had averaged 90.5 yards rushing through the first four games but gained 270 yards against Mt. SAC.

The big play for Fullerton came on a fake field goal attempt early in the fourth quarter. Severson, the holder, pulled up with the ball and completed a 12-yard pass to Richard Garcia, good for a first down at the Mt. SAC 12. Greer scored on a three-yard run to give Fullerton a 28-21 lead.

Al Narvarra had 13 carries for 52 yards and 3 touchdowns including a pair in the first half.

Golden West 23, Long Beach City 14--Brennan Powe’s (80 yards in 7 carries) 43-yard touchdown run with 2:30 left in the game sealed the victory for Golden West. Mike Babb’s end zone recovery of a blocked Long Beach punt with 3:27 left in the second quarter gave Golden West a 10-0 lead. Golden West improves to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference. Long Beach falls to 2-3 and 0-2.
