San Pedro : Opinions Sought on Park

Residents who want to give their opinions on the future of White Point Park must do so by Saturday, according to the citizens panel charged with studying the future of the former Nike missile site in San Pedro.

Jerry Gaines, chairman of the White Point Citizens Advisory Committee, said his committee will accept written comments from the public until Oct. 31. The committee will deliberate during November and make a recommendation to harbor area Councilwoman Joan Milke Flores in December, Gaines said.

What to do with the 102-acre parcel, which overlooks the Pacific, has been a sensitive issue in San Pedro, where opinion is split between converting the land into a state park and nature preserve or building city-operated ball fields there.
