Schools and offices that saved the Los Angeles Unified School District $1.7 million during 1986-87 through their participation in the district’s Energy Incentive Program will receive awards totaling $394,037 in ceremonies at the Bonaventure Hotel today.

Achievement certificates and incentive checks equal to 25% of the dollar savings on electricity, gas and water bills will be presented to representatives of 219 schools that met or surpassed the goal of 10% reduction in use of the three utilities.

The Energy Incentive Program began in 1983 as a pilot project in 20 schools, and was expanded districtwide to 842 schools and offices three years later to encourage conservation efforts by students and employees.
