Emergency workers rescued about 200 foreign and Chinese travelers marooned by a snowstorm on a Himalayan plateau for a week, the Chinese Foreign Ministry reported. The ministry told the U.S. Embassy in Beijing that no foreigners were injured in the blizzard along the Tibetan-Nepalese border, which has left 11 Tibetans dead in the last week. However, a Tibetan official told a reporter that a Japanese mountain-climbing group and 16 members of a British climbing group were still unaccounted for. In addition, the State Department said in Washington that at least six American tourists remained aboard buses stranded on the highway between Lhasa and Katmandu, a popular tourist route.
