Raiders Trade Davis to Oilers for Draft Pick
Brian Holloway made the Raider starting lineup Tuesday in a walkover. The previous left tackle, long-time Raider Bruce Davis, was traded back into contention, to the Houston Oilers, for a draft choice.
For Davis, the Raiders will get a No. 2 draft choice if the Oilers make the playoffs, or a No. 3 if they don’t. Houston leads the AFC Central with a 5-2 record.
Davis, 31, was in his ninth Raider season. The team took him on the 11th round from UCLA in 1979. He succeeded Art Shell, played in the Raider Super Bowl victories in 1981 and 1984, and in 1985 was voted the team’s best offensive lineman by his teammates.
Trading Davis means the Raiders will start their fourth different offensive line in five non-strikeball games, and the third in the last three.
Davis couldn’t be reached for comment.
The Raiders cut down to the new 45-plus-5 limit by waiving Ethan Horton, Brad Tubbs, and strikeball signees Keith Browner, Zeph Lee, Ricky Williams, Willie Teal and Greg Hill. Quarterback Vince Evans and safety Eddie Anderson, both signed during the strike, remain Raiders.
