The forensic scientist who helped expose the 1983 Hitler diaries hoax testified that it was “unlikely” that retired U.S. auto worker John Demjanjuk signed a Nazi identity card used as a key piece of evidence at his war crimes trial in Jerusalem. Julius Grant, an 86-year-old British chemist who specializes in handwriting and paper authentication, also said he doubts that the card’s gray-green paper was produced in World War II Germany because it has a rag content, and such material “was hoarded like gold” in those days. Demjanjuk, 67, is accused of being “Ivan the Terrible,” a Ukrainian guard who operated the gas chambers at the Treblinka death camp.
