L.A.’s major black-oriented stations and what music they play:
KJLH-FM (102.3). Urban contemporary; dance-oriented and some oldies. Most likely to program: Michael Jackson, Jody Watley, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam.
KACE-FM (103.9). “Quiet Storm” format; mellow listening and frequently jazz oriented, though the station is slated to become more urban oriented. Most likely to program: Anita Baker, Luther Vandross, Kenny G.
KDAY-AM (1580). Rap emphasis. Most likely to program: Run-D.M.C., L.L. Cool J, Whodini.
KGFJ-AM (1230). “Heart and Soul” format; vintage R&B.; Mostly likely to program: The Supremes, James Brown, the Stylistics.
